We will go on an easy walking tour in the marvellous alleys of the ancient town. Then we will journey past the home of Simon the Tanner and head to a hilltop to look over the horizon. Next, we will drive north along the coast through Via Maris, to the ancient ruins of Caesarea, which was built for Augustus Caesar by Herod the Great. Onward, we will visit the ruins of Megiddo, the place in which the Book of Revelation speaks of the great battle at “Armageddon”, where an ancient city blossomed for more than 5,000 years (6000-500 B.C.) After this, we will begin driving toward the Sea of Galilee, but first, we will stop by the site of a famous wedding. In Cana, we will explore the Church where Jesus’ first miracle was performed, in which he turned water into wine. Finally, we will arrive at your hotel in the city of Tiberias to rest for the evening.
We will visit the Sea of Galilee’s north shore, where Jesus spent much of his life. Then we will drive beside the shore to “His Town”, otherwise known as Capernaum, the center at which Jesus performed many miracles and healed the sick in his ministry.
Continue to Tabgha, where Jesus performed the miraculous feeding of 5,000 people with 5 loaves of bread and two fish. We will visit the Church of Multiplication, where you can gaze upon the mosaic floor which depicts the miracle. Then we will see the Church of the Primacy of St. Peter, where Jesus reinstated St. Peter as the chief among the disciples. Next, we will visit the site of the “Sermon on the Mount”. It is here at the Mount of Beatitudes that overlooks the sea, where Jesus is believed to have chosen his 12 disciples. Onward, we will journey upwards to the Golan Heights. We will overlook the birds-eye view of the Mt. Hermon peaks and the Golan plateau. Then we will head to the foot of Mt. Hermon to visit Banias (Caesarea Philippi), which is one of the main sources of the Jordan River. In this location, Jesus brought his disciples to reveal His purpose and His Church before his final journey to Jerusalem. It is also where Simon recognized Jesus as the Messiah. From here we will drive to the southern region of the Sea of Galilee at the entrance to the Jordan River to visit the Yardenit Baptismal Site. It is here that Yardenit became the first regulated baptismal site on the Israeli side of the Jordan River. Then we will return to Tiberias for another night on the town.
We will begin the day by sailing on the Sea of Galilee to experience the serene landscape which has changed little over the past 2000 years (conditions and fees apply).
Next, we will visit the setting of Jesus’ childhood. We will through Galilee to Nazareth, where Jesus spent most of his childhood. We will visit the Church of Annunciation, built upon the place where archaeologists believe the Virgin Mary was visited by the Archangel Gabriel. Here you will find Joseph’s Church and Mary’s Well. Onward, we will visit Beit Alpha in which the ancient synagogue lays at the foot of the northern side of the Gilboa Mountains. The synagogue has one of the most magnificent and preserved mosaics in all of Israel. From here we will pass by Jericho through the Jordan Valley, before ascending the Judean Mountains to the Holy City of Jerusalem. Then we will settle into the hotel for a night in Jerusalem.
Today we witness the scenery of the Dead Sea and move to Masada, which sits on a cliff in the Judean Desert and was named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2001. Travel by cable car to the fortress—the last stronghold of the Jewish Zealots during their war with the Romans. Visit all the remarkable excavations, King Herod’s palace, the synagogue, and the bathhouse and witness the fantastic Roman camps. On our way to the Dead Sea, visit the Qumran Caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls once lay. The Dead Sea is the lowest point on the Earth’s surface, sitting at 1,300 feet below sea level. If weather permits, bring your swimsuit for a dip in the Sea where the salt and minerals make you float on the water. Travel back to Jerusalem for the night.
The day starts at the Israel Museum’s Shrine of the Book with a glimpse of the Dead Sea Scrolls followed by a trip to the renovated model of the Herodian city of Jerusalem which dates back to the Second Temple. Visit Ein Karem, the lovely village in the southwest outskirts of Jerusalem that is significant in Christian traditions as the place of John the Baptist’s birth. We then visit Yad Vashem, the official memorial for the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. Yad Vashem was erected in 1953 and is located at the foot of Mt. Hertzl. Travel to Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus. We’ll see the Church of the Nativity and Manger Square. End the day at your hotel in Jerusalem.
We start by entering the Old City of Jerusalem where we visit the Western Wall and the site of the Second Temple, the Temple Mount. We will visit and walk the Way of the Cross, Via Dolorosa, to Cavalry and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre includes the traditional site of the Crucifixion and the Tomb of the Resurrection. Outside the Old City to the southwest lies Mount Zion where sits the tomb of King David and the Room of the Last Supper. While on the top of the Mount of Olives, experience a panoramic view of Jerusalem, the holy city for the world’s three largest religions—Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. End the day by visiting the Garden of Gethsemane, where Judas betrayed Jesus. Travel back to your hotel for the night.
Leave Jerusalem and drive to the Sheikh Hussein border crossing to enter Jordan. We travel to Jerash, the city of Decapolis which sits 45km north of Amman in the heights of Gilad. We will tour the ancient Roman city including visits to the baths and the hill of the top Temple. Next, we drive to Amman for a tour of the Jordanian capital. Check-in to your hotel in Amman.
Begin the day with a drive to Mount Nebo, where Moses witnessed the Promised Land. See the Jordan Valley, Jericho, and the Dead Sea. We move through the Desert Highway to Wadi Musa, a village of Petra. In the city of Petra, you can walk or ride on horseback to the “Siq,” a canyon. Move through the canyon to the red rock city of the ancient capital of the Nabateans who existed there from the 3rd century B.C. to the 2nd century A.D. We will see the carved monuments of the Treasury, or El Khazne, the tomb of a Nabatean king, as well as the field of tombs, obelisks, the altar and more. Return to Wadi Musa and check-in to your hotel in Petra.
Drive south to the majestic mountains and stunning rock formations of Wadi Rum, which once mesmerized Lawrence of Arabia. Go on a Jeep safari of the desert landscape, finding the Lawrence Spring and Khazali Canyon. Then move north to Madaba to see the remains of a Byzantine church with a mosaic floor map, believed to be the oldest surviving mosaic cartographic depiction of the Holy Land and Jerusalem. Return to Amman for the night.
