Tour Overview

Come join us on a journey through the captivating region of Puglia, located on the heel of Italy’s iconic boot shape. During our trip, we’ll immerse ourselves in the culture and history of this area, including visiting well-known cities such as Lecce, known as the “Florence of the South,” Bari with its charming seaport, and the picturesque heritage towns of Trani and Ostuni. We’ll also have the opportunity to bask in the beauty of sandy beaches, rolling green hills with breathtaking views, and marvel at the art and architecture that Puglia has to offer. In addition to its renowned olive oils and wines, Puglia boasts its own distinct cuisine, featuring the famous “orecchiette” pasta. This vacation is perfect for anyone looking to discover the unique charms of this region of Italy.

Itinerary

On the first day of your tour, you will arrive on your own to the vibrant city of Bari and meet your tour leader at your hotel. In the afternoon, you will embark on a walking tour to discover the city’s rich history and iconic landmarks, including the majestic Basilica of San Nicola, the Norman-Swabian Castle, and the picturesque Piazza Mercantile. Don’t miss the breathtaking view from the castle, although admission is at your own expense. The day will conclude with a delicious dinner and a comfortable overnight stay.

On the second day, you will leave Bari and travel to the enchanting town of Trani, known as the “Pearl of Puglia.” You will have the opportunity to explore its art and monuments, including the charming Jewish quarter and the stunning white stone Cathedral. In the afternoon, you will visit Castel Del Monte, a 13th century UNESCO World Heritage Site built by Roger the Norman. This harmonious, octagonal complex is shrouded in mystery and is a must-see attraction. You will then journey to Alberobello, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its “trulli” – cone-shaped houses made of local limestone. This fairy tale village has a unique atmosphere and is named after the ancient oak forest of “Arboris Belli” (beautiful trees) that once covered the area. You will spend the night in a scattered hotel, sleeping in a real “Trullo.” Dinner is included.

On the third day, you will visit Matera, another UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its “Sassi di Matera” (Stones of Matera) – caves that have been used as homes for over 9,000 years. You will see the beautiful Romanesque Cathedral, the impressive “Campanile” (Bell Tower), and the breathtaking view of the “Sassi.” In the late afternoon, you will return to Alberobello and spend the night in a “Trullo.” Dinner is included.

On the fourth day, you will leave Alberobello and travel to the charming town of Locorotondo, one of the “white towns” of Puglia. After some free time to explore, you will continue to Ostuni, another “white town” known for its ancient olive trees and delicious olive oil. You will have some free time for lunch, shopping, and tasting local products (at your own expense). In the late afternoon, you will arrive in the stunning city of Lecce, the heart of the Salento region, for dinner and a comfortable overnight stay.

On the fifth day, you will enjoy a 3 hours guided visit of Lecce, including the charming old town center, the magnificent 12th century Cathedral, the beautiful Basilica of Santa Croce, and the picturesque Piazza del Duomo. After the tour, you will travel to the enchanting city of Otranto, where you will have some free time for lunch. You will then spend the afternoon exploring the city at your leisure. In the early evening, reach Supersano where you will have dinner at the “Masseria le Stanzìe”. Visit this ancient farm, learn about the history and culture of Puglia. Dinner with typical meals and products from the region. In the night, travel back to Lecce.

Breakfast is a good way to start the last morning of your trip. It is time to say goodbye. Arrivederci!
