13 Day Tour of Madrid, Segovia, Avila, Salamanca, Santiago de Compostela, Viana do Castelo, Porto, Aveiro, Fatima, Lisbon, Merida, Seville, Cordoba & Granada.
Itinerary
You will arrive at Madrid Airport. After passing through immigrations and customs, you will collect your luggage and be transported to your first-class hotel. You will have some free time to explore this lively capital city. In the afternoon, you’ll go on the “Illuminated Madrid” driving tour through the busy streets of the old city, which will end at the iconic Plaza Mayor. This part of the city is known for traditional restaurants and taverns that serve Spain’s signature “tapas.” Premium Package will enjoy a Tapas Dinner. You are free to return to the hotel at your leisure.
Following the buffet breakfast, you will begin a tour of some of the most iconic and magnificent locations in Madrid. This includes the Puerta del Sol, the Gran Via, the fountains of Neptune and Cibele, the Alcala Gate, and the Plazas de España and Oriente.
In the afternoon, you are free to visit some of Madrid’s famous art museums, or you have the option to go on a tour of the former capital city of Toledo. Here, you’ll have the chance to walk the cobblestone streets of the city, taking in the medieval culture that will surround you. This tour includes the opportunity to see the interior of a spectacular Gothic cathedral and visit St. Tome Church, where you’ll see El Greco’s masterpiece painting displayed.
Following the buffet breakfast and hotel check-out, you will depart Madrid and enter old Castile, where you’ll visit Segovia, a beautiful medieval city. Segovia is home to 2000 year-old Roman aqueducts and the distinctive Alcazar Castle. You’ll also make a quick stop in Avila to view the 11th century city walls that have been flawlessly preserved. You’ll arrive in the city of Salamanca, a charming city home to a well-known university.
You’ll take an afternoon tour of the city. The Premium Package includes dinner.
It is recommended that you take a nighttime stroll through the gorgeous main plaza, which is always bustling with activity.
After a buffet breakfast, you will depart from Salamanca, heading to northern Spain and Galicia. You will arrive at the beautiful Santiago de Compostela. The afternoon will be spent on a guided tour of the old city of Santiago de Compostela, where you will see its beautiful cathedral.
In the evening, the Premium Package includes a nice dinner at the hotel.
After the buffet breakfast, you will depart from Santiago de Compostela to Rias Baixas, and we will continue travelling to Portugal. Along the way, we will visit Viana do Castelo, a small town at the mouth of the Lima River that is known for its historic center and castle. We will continue travelling and arrive in Porto, which is the capital of northern Portugal, located in the region of Douro.
Following the buffet breakfast, you will be guided by a local throughout the city, and you will also visit a winery. The Premium Package will also include the usual lunch. You are free to spend the afternoon exploring the city.
You’ll have the buffet break and then begin travelling to Aveiro, a city containing many canals that is known as the “Venice of Portugal.” Then, you will continue travelling to Fatima, a major destination for Christian pilgrimages. Here, you’ll have free time to see the basilica and have lunch, which is included in the Premium Package. From here, you’ll travel to Lisbon, where you’ll have the option to hear the melancholy, yet beautiful Fado music with dinner. This is included with the Premium Package dinner.
After the buffet breakfast, you’ll go on a tour of the city, which overlooks the Tagus River. There will be so much scenery to take in along the way, including the Tower of Belem and the Jeronimos Monastery. You will have free time this afternoon, and we highly recommend visiting the towns of Sintra and Cascais. Tours of these villages are part of the Premium Package.
You will have a buffet breakfast and then depart from Lisbon. You’ll travel to Seville on the Spanish border, with a quick stop in Merida on the way. Here, you’ll see the archeological site for the Roman amphitheatre. Lunch today will be included for the Premium Package.
After the buffet breakfast, you’ll go on an exciting guided tour of the city. Along the route are the Tower of Gold, the serene Maria Luisa Park, the charming Santa Cruz Quarter. The tour will end with the grand Seville Cathedral. The tour will be followed by a free afternoon to eat lunch (included in the Premium Package) and do some wandering or shopping on your own. In the evening, there will be an option to attend a Flamenco Show and the opportunity to try local wine. The Flamenco Show and wine is included in the Premium Package.
There will be a buffet breakfast, and then you will leave Seville and travel to Cordoba. Here, you’ll visit the Cathedral–Mosque of Córdoba. There will be free time to eat lunch, and then you will continue travelling to Granada. Along the route, you’ll pass many acres of olive groves. Upon arrival in Granada, the Premium Package will include dinner.
Following the buffet breakfast, you will begin a guided tour that includes the impressive Alhambra and the vibrant Gardens of the Generalife. Following the tour, you will leave Granada and travel to Madrid. Along the way, you’ll travel across the Plains of La Mancha, where the famous Don Quixote takes place.
After the buffet breakfast, you will be transported to Madrid airport at the appropriate time prior to your trans-Atlantic flight home.
